Making Waves at the House Sports Swimming Carnival

What a splashing good time we had on Tuesday 13 February, as students and staff from both campuses dove headfirst into the excitement of our annual House Sports Swimming Carnival at Monash Aquatic Centre.

The pool was buzzing with energy as our talented swimmers showcased their skills in classic events like breaststroke, backstroke, freestyle, and butterfly 鈥 some going on to represent our school at division. But that’s not all 鈥 we turned up the fun factor with hilarious relays and wacky activities, complete with green crocodile floaties and water gun showdowns with our awesome teachers keeping everyone cool.

Under the warm sun, the carnival took on a festive atmosphere with tunes pumping, beach volleyball matches heating up, and giant Jenga towers toppling over. Picture this: students and teachers lounging on vibrant picnic blankets spread across the poolside, all decked out in their vibrant house colours.

Our creative Year 12s stole the show with their out-of-this-world costumes, transforming into everything from Kath & Kim characters to Teletubbies, pirates, M&Ms, fairies, tutu-wearing superheroes, and even chipmunks!

With laughter echoing and spirits soaring, it was a day filled with camaraderie, competition, and endless fun in the sun. Congratulations to our victorious house (drumroll, please…) Aston 鈥 you rocked the pool and showed true House spirit!

COLLEGE DUX – EIRINI VERGAKI

Congratulations to our 2023 School DUX Eirini Vergaki who received an ATAR of 98!听 Eirini is a Institute of the Arts, Drama specialism student on our Eastern Campus. On behalf of everyone at RSC we want to congratulate you on your outstanding achievement as our School Dux! Below is Eirni’s College Dux speech performed at our High Achievers Assembly in February 2024 and a interview with Eirinia.

Read College Dux Speech听

Here is our interview with Eirini.

1. How are you feeling about your ATAR result?

Although I know that I am not defined by my ATAR, it feels extremely rewarding to witness my years of efforts pay off in the end. This distinction is something that has occupied my mind for numerous years now. Since Year 9, I would glance at the beaming student on the poster outside the school and visualise myself on it. Pressure started building as friends and teachers began to discuss the possibility of this achievement for me. As flattering as it was that my support network thought so highly of me, the buzz around the thought became overwhelming at times. I did not know which side of myself to believe, the one who trusts her discipline and motivation, or the one who is all-consumed by the brilliance of those who surround her. Until I realised that both sides could coexist harmoniously, and I began to embrace both. I know that my ATAR is nothing but a number, and not a true indicator of intelligence, but I would be lying if I said it didn鈥檛 feel good to see it. It serves as a reminder that I can do anything I put my mind to, and such reminders are always good to have.

2. What are your future goals?

There is plenty that I want to achieve and experience in my lifetime, and my goals span across a wide range of areas and fields. I don鈥檛 wish to confine myself to one particular field because I know I am meant for more. I figure I have plenty of years ahead of me to do it, so all in good time.

3. Is there anyone you鈥檇 like to thank at RSC?

Absolutely 鈥 in no particular order.

  • Nicholas Fry 鈥 My Learning Mentor, the friendly face that greeted me each morning with admirable attempts at Greek phrases, the one who asked for my autograph 鈥渘ow that it doesn鈥檛 cost money鈥.
  • Madeline Dundon 鈥 Who skilfully served a therapeutic role as well as an educational one, and believed in me from day one. I knew I could turn to you for anything. And I often did, sincere apologies for the trauma dumps.
  • Malti Kushwaha 鈥 Another massive supporter, and one of the most dedicated and skilled teachers I have ever had the pleasure of being taught by.
  • Emily Lasorella 鈥 Reassuring, organised, methodical. I never doubted my ability to rely on you. You may have been single-handedly responsible for my increased sugar intake with the number of lollies you gave me, but I forgive you.
  • Bronwyn Waterfall 鈥 So insanely dedicated and courageous. I will forever admire you for taking on a Year 12 class in a subject that was completely foreign to you. Thank you for the memes disguised as 鈥榗ontemporary evidence鈥.
  • Lisa Geysen 鈥 Whom I had as a teacher for my most difficult subject, and who urged me to endure it.
  • Craig McGeehan 鈥 Another person who believed in me from the beginning. Thank you for seeing my potential and helping me realise it.
  • Michael Toovey (not RSC, but it felt wrong to not mention you) 鈥 Someone without whom I would not be where I am today. One of the most memorable people I have ever met, one who understood me, and one who guided me towards positive change and self-improvement.

4. What is the best thing about going to school at RSC?

One of the best parts of attending RSC is the cohort. We don鈥檛 realise how lucky we are to be surrounded by people who are wholeheartedly devoted to their craft, and with whom we share common interests. Stars of tomorrow coexisting in one place. It is a true privilege to make these connections, and I am certain that many of them resurface in the future.

Here’s what our Teachers are saying:

“Eirini is a truly outstanding human. Her dedication to her learning and continuous strive for excellence should be a lesson for us all. Throughout her time in RIA, Eirini has paved the way with grace and poise to always set high expectations of herself and others. She will always be a valued member of the 香港六合彩开奖结果 Secondary College community, we are so incredibly proud of you.” – Ms. Maddie Dundon, Head of RIA.

“Brilliant, congratulations Eirini.” – Jenn Walter, RIA Creative Director.

“Congrats to you Eirini.” – Matt Krawczyk.

“Congratulations.” – Ms. Leicester.

“Amazing achievement Eirini! Well done.” – Ms. Hocking.

“Well done, a very hardworking student.” – Mr. Blair-Bremner.听

CALEB WINDSOR PICK #7 IN THE AFL DRAFT 2023 TAKEN BY THE MELBOURNE FC.

Caleb lived locally and joined 香港六合彩开奖结果 Sports Academy in 2018 having attended Lysterfield Primary School. At that time Caleb played for Knox Falcons FC U12, although he subsequently moved to his local Lysterfield Wolves FC. It says much about Caleb鈥檚 desire to get better and his capability of taking on feedback to do so, that as a student coming into Year 7 Caleb had been assessed at our selection camps as a very capable footballer but not one of the top handful of students chosen for the RSA AFL program in 2018. This mirrors the development that Caleb has had over the last couple of years in particular. While Caleb鈥檚 skills and athletic traits were certainly obvious enough and he gained selection for Eastern Ranges in the Coates League as a bottom aged player in 2022, he began 2023 just on the pundits ranking lists at about #50. It says much about Caleb鈥檚 character and work traits however, that during the year recognition of Caleb began to be notable as his rankings moved into the 20s after the national carnival, then into the early teens towards the end of the season before being predicted as a top 10 pick ahead of the national draft.

Caleb brings run and carry and strong kicking to his game traits with speed and power that is sure to be invaluable to the Melbourne FC, where we are confident that he will have a long and distinguished career. We wish you all well Caleb and will watch your career with great interest and pride.

NICK WATSON PICK #5 IN THE AFL DRAFT 2023 TAKEN BY THE HAWTHORN FC.

Nick joined 香港六合彩开奖结果 Sports Academy AFL program in 2018 from Tinternvale Primary School and East Ringwood FC. Director of Coaching, Darren Bewick, identified very early the special talents that Nick possessed and indeed selected him for the program while he was still in Year 5 and assessed him at our trials as one of the most talented students to attend our pre-selection camps. On joining the RSA program, Nick continued to work hard further developing his skills on both sides of his body and working on his decision making in game situations. As he progressed to the Eastern Ranges these traits and the physical development within his small stature were the ones that held him in great stead and he was selected for Eastern Ranges FC as a double bottom aged player in the Coates League, where he had immediate success.

Although Nick completed his final two years of school as a scholarship holder at Caulfield Grammar, RSA is proud of the work that occurred across his 4 years at 香港六合彩开奖结果 to position Nick for his elite selection in the 2023 draft. This is the highest selection achieved by a male RSA student in the draft alongside Amber Clarke鈥檚 selection by Essendon in the 2022 AFLW draft.

Congratulations Nick we look forward to watching a highly successful AFL career unfold.

Polarity, written and directed by RIA Media Specialism student Elmarie de Beer and edited by Brody Fahie, was a collaborative effort across RIA Specialisms. It was shot over two days at Montsalvat with authentic period costumes from Jane Hyland Costumes. Mr. Nathan Stewart oversaw the professional project and the students are very proud of their work.

Watch our short film Polarity below, it takes us back into a period of time in the early 1900s where life was much harder for everyone and 2 young brothers and a girl intertwine where a love of reading, learning and dreaming prevail.

You will see some familiar faces and teachers in the production.

It鈥檚 a wrap for High School Musical

It鈥檚 a wrap for our 2023 school production of High School Musical! From August 2-5 we had five amazing performances playing to packed crowds in our PAC. Thank you to everyone who came along and saw the show. A wonderful, uplifting and highly professional family friendly show that left everyone feeling happy, energetic, and smiling in their seats. A huge thank you to the cast, crew, music ensemble and teachers and staff for putting on such an outstanding show. A special mention to our Year 12 students who contributed so much, on stage, backstage and in the band to this year’s show. We will miss you all, but you will always hold a special place in the production family.

In Term 4 we will be announcing our 2024 School Production so watch out for that!

Here鈥檚 what our audience had to say:

“WOW! WOW! WOW!” From the moment I sat down to the very end I had a fabulous time. The compere was entertaining and confident and held the audience in the palm of his hand. The sound and lighting team did an incredible job. The crew were efficient and surprisingly quiet while moving props. The onstage performers were talented, confident, and amazing singers. A massive shout out to the band 鈥 they were a standout for me. Congratulations and well done to all staff and students.”

鈥淚ncredible performance by all, everyone should be very proud.鈥

鈥淚ncredibly professional show! Performances so good, staging and choreography really creative and engaging, musicians a knockout (and funny at the end!), tech crew so hard working every night! Way better than many commercial shows I鈥檝e seen! Well done kids and amazing staff鈥

鈥淎bsolutely outstanding performance last night. So extremely proud of all of them.鈥
